Hello, my name is Helder, and I was diagnosed with Minimal Change Disease, a form of nephrotic syndrome, at just 2 years old. Now, at 47, I’ve been living with this condition for an incredible 45 years—a true “dinosaur” in the world of nephrotic syndrome.
Living with this condition for so many years has brought its share of ups and downs, but with consistent treatment, resilience, and support, it is possible to lead a full and meaningful life.
Since the age of 19, I’ve been on cyclosporine, which has helped manage my condition with periods of remission. I’m grateful that despite the long journey, my kidney function remains excellent, with an eGFR of 125.

I pursued my education with determination, earning degrees in Biology and Computer Engineering. I also embarked on a degree in Acupuncture, which I nearly completed.
Today, I’m the proud father of a beautiful 6-year-old daughter—who thankfully shows no signs of kidney disease. After decades of personal growth and life experiences, my focus is now fully dedicated to her.
I wanted to share my story with NephCure to offer hope and encouragement to those newly diagnosed or facing challenges with nephrotic syndrome. Living with this condition for so many years has brought its share of ups and downs, but with consistent treatment, resilience, and support, it is possible to lead a full and meaningful life.
Warm hugs 🫶
