Jochen Reiser became president of the University of Texas Medical Branch in August 2023. Additionally, he serves as the CEO of the UTMB Health System, is a professor in the John Sealy School of Medicine and is the John D. Stobo, MD Distinguished Chair. Prior to joining UTMB Health, Reiser served in faculty and leadership roles at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine and Harvard Medical School in Boston. His scientific work focuses on understanding kidney physiology and diseases to provide novel frameworks for therapies. Jochen Reiser is proud to say that his laboratory is studying the role of suPAR in the regulation of organ function by the innate immune system. Over the years, he has led a team effort in defining a role for myeloid cell derived, soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) as biomarker and pathogen in kidney disease including Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), Diabetic Nephropathy (DN) and acute kidney injury (AKI), as well as in cardiovascular disease such as atherosclerosis.
