In 2019, Judy was diagnosed with Stage 3 CKD. This discovery came after a routine trip to her Primary Care Doctor. Although Judy had a history of past of symptoms, she dismissed them and assumed that they were due to the stress of being a full-time working mom. However, when she went to her Primary Care doctor, concern about her blood pressure led her doctor to order blood work.
With the results, the doctor submitted a referral to a Nephrologist. Her Nephrologist conducted a biopsy which determined she had IgA Nephropathy. Over the following months, Judy discovered more information and began on a restricted diet as well as medication to manage the illness. In 2020, Judy began to post on social media about her journey with chronic illness. She connected with many in the community. This experience changed her life in ways that she had previously never imagined. Judy found a new passion in advocating and spreading disease awareness.
Judy lives in Hawaii with her husband, son, and mother. After a successful event planning career, Judy stopped working to lower her stress and focus on her health. Currently, Judy works to stay present and enjoy all there is in life. She cares for her mom and volunteers at her son’s school.
