NephCure Applauds U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on the Release of the Rare Kidney Disease Inclusive Kidney Care National Plan

PHILADELPHIA, PA — October 22, 2026 — NephCure, a leading nonprofit organization advocating to ensure that all individuals with rare, protein-spilling kidney disease have equitable access to the care and treatments that offer them the best kidney health outcome possible, applauds the release of the Kidney Care National Plan by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) this past Tuesday, October 20th 2026.

This comprehensive strategy not only recognizes rare kidney disease (RKD) and the progress made in treatment and drug development but looks to develop better prevention measures to help more patients receive the care they need to prevent progression to end-stage kidney disease (ESKD).

NephCure worked closely with the Administration on the development of the plan. From meetings with Administration officials to providing data and evidence to HHS, CMMI (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation) and CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) on rare kidney disease.

NephCure also applauds the patients and families who made their voices heard by policymakers and members of Congress during NephCure’s Rare Kidneys on the Hill Day and through hundreds of direct emails and phone calls. Their perspectives were represented in these policy recommendations.

NephCure is proud to have helped make this landscape shifting strategy a reality. This new framework is a meaningful step in creating even better diagnostic testing, preventive measures, and precision medicine to help treat RKD and keep patients from progressing to the need for dialysis or transplant.

Patients and advocates can look forward to NephCure continuing to work in tandem with the Administration to help implement these policy recommendations while continuing to raise awareness of innovations in rare kidney disease and the opportunities to improve patient health outcomes. NephCure is committed to engaging, connecting and aligning with our patient advocates, physicians, researchers, government officials and industry partners to advance:

  • Early and accurate diagnosis
  • Connection to innovations in care and treatment options
  • Equitable access to opportunities for improved kidney health outcomes for individuals with rare kidney disease
