Amanda Skeens

Community Leader

In 2007, Amanda was diagnosed with IGA Nephropathy which just happens to coincide with the year she met her husband. Amanda currently lives in Bordentown, New Jersey with her husband Don. Don has been her steady support throughout her kidney journey. For the first 11 years of her diagnosis, her IGA was not very present in her daily life. She went for bloodwork as required and it was smooth sailing. Fast forward to the Spring of 2018 and this was the first time she had real symptoms of her IGA which was her first kidney flare-up due to stress at work. After going through steroid treatment and learning how to cope with the loss of her kidney function, she decided that she wanted to start educating herself even more about her kidney disease and helping others who may be going through the same thing. She has been volunteering and advocating for herself and others in the kidney community since 2019. She loves to connect with patients to make everyone feel less alone and has previously led a monthly patient support group for fellow kidney patients.
