At age 14, Louis had just moved to the United States from the island of Mauritius when he was diagnosed with idiopathic FSGS. “I remember my feet being so swollen that I could not fit into my sneakers,” he said. At age 15, he received a kidney from his mother. Unfortunately, nearly 10 years later his transplanted kidney failed, and he subsequently developed Renal Cell Carcinoma. The kidney was removed, and the cancer did not spread past the kidney capsule. Louis has been on peritoneal dialysis for 5+ years, and is seeking a kidney donor.

He presently lives in New York, and is finishing a Master’s degree in Accountancy. He plans to become a Certified Public Accountant and live a full life. His advice to other patients is to take it one day at a time.
