{"id":36157,"date":"2025-08-01T12:09:51","date_gmt":"2025-08-01T16:09:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nephcure.org\/?p=36157"},"modified":"2025-08-06T14:20:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T18:20:12","slug":"the-fda-approves-empaveli-new-treatment-option-for-c3g-and-primary-ic-mpgn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nephcure.org\/es\/the-fda-approves-empaveli-new-treatment-option-for-c3g-and-primary-ic-mpgn\/","title":{"rendered":"The FDA Approves EMPAVELI, New Treatment Option for C3G and Primary IC-MPGN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a continued wave of progress for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nephcure.org\/es\/introduccion-a-rkd\/tipos-de-rkd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">enfermedad renal rara<\/a>\u00a0(RKD) treatments, the FDA has approved\u00a0the drug\u00a0EMPAVELI (pegcetacoplan) for use in patients 12 and older with <a href=\"https:\/\/nephcure.org\/es\/introduccion-a-rkd\/tipos-de-rkd\/complemento-3-glomerulopatia-c3g-ic-mpgn-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">C3 glomerulopathy (C3G)<\/a> or\u00a0primary<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nephcure.org\/es\/introduccion-a-rkd\/tipos-de-rkd\/complemento-3-glomerulopatia-c3g-ic-mpgn-3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">immune complex membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (IC-MPGN)<\/a><strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0This approval also includes individuals who have experienced disease recurrence after kidney transplant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">C3G and primary IC-MPGN are ultra-rare, progressive diseases that damage the filtering units of the kidneys and can ultimately lead to kidney failure.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe approval of EMPAVELI is a historic milestone for people living with C3G and primary IC-MPGN, many of whom are adolescents or young adults,\u201d said&nbsp;Josh Tarnoff, NephCure CEO.&nbsp;\u201cWe recognize Apellis\u2019 commitment to these patients and their families, and to the research and innovation that will bring this life-changing treatment into the hands of patients that need it most.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What the Research Shows<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The FDA\u2019s approval of EMPAVELI is based on results from a Phase 3 clinical trial called&nbsp;VALIANT, which looked at how well the treatment worked in people with C3G or primary IC-MPGN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The study found that patients who received EMPAVELI experienced:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>A 68% reduction in proteinuria<\/strong>, a key sign of disease activity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Stabilization of kidney function<\/strong>, helping to slow disease progression<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Significant reduction in C3 deposits in the kidneys<\/strong>, with 71% of patients showing no remaining deposits on follow-up testing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What This Means for the RKD Community<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With this approval, EMPAVELI becomes an additional option for patients and families navigating life with C3G or primary IC-MPGN.
