En 2002, Kevin sufri\u00f3 migra\u00f1as debilitantes. A medida que empeoraban, Kevin decidi\u00f3 consultar a un m\u00e9dico y descubri\u00f3 que su presi\u00f3n arterial era anormalmente alta. Kevin siempre hab\u00eda sido alguien que hac\u00eda ejercicio y le encantaba cocinar. Esto suceder\u00eda dos veces m\u00e1s. Fue al m\u00e9dico, le diagnosticaron hipertensi\u00f3n arterial, pero en ambas ocasiones los m\u00e9dicos mencionaron algo como causa que parec\u00eda derivar de sus prejuicios m\u00e1s que del di\u00e1logo con Kevin. Un d\u00eda, Kevin necesitaba desesperadamente ver a un m\u00e9dico y consigui\u00f3 una cita en una cl\u00ednica para mujeres debido a la falta de disponibilidad de m\u00e9dicos. Fue y conoci\u00f3 al m\u00e9dico que se convertir\u00eda en su m\u00e9dico de atenci\u00f3n primaria y quien finalmente lo dirigi\u00f3 a un nefr\u00f3logo, lo que finalmente lo llev\u00f3 a un diagn\u00f3stico de GEFS.<\/p>\n\n\n

Se volvi\u00f3 a conectar con NephCure (hab\u00eda asistido a un evento ben\u00e9fico de NephCure en Chicago en 2015) y comenz\u00f3 a trabajar como voluntario en 2018, y finalmente se uni\u00f3 a la junta. Afortunadamente, en julio de 2017, un amigo suyo de la universidad le don\u00f3 un ri\u00f1\u00f3n. Su FSGS ha estado en remisi\u00f3n desde entonces. El voluntariado siempre hab\u00eda sido parte de la vida de Kevin y una vez que se recuper\u00f3 de su cirug\u00eda, busc\u00f3 una manera de apoyar a los pacientes y cuidadores afectados por FSGS.
