FILSPARI\u00ae<\/strong> (sparsentan) for FSGS<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Sparsentan is an oral medication used to protect the kidneys in certain types of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and IgA nephropathy (IgAN). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In FSGS, sparsentan is used to lower the protein leaking into the urine. Sparsentan is FDA approved for the treatment of FSGS (without nephrotic syndrome) in children ages 8 and up and in adults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Does FILSPARI\u00ae<\/strong> Work?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sparsentan does not suppress the body\u2019s immune system. It works by blocking two signals in the body called endothelin and angiotensin II. These signals are involved in controlling blood pressure and can cause chronic damage to the kidney filters.  Blocking these signals can help to reduce damage to the kidney\u2019s filters.<\/p>\n\n\n

How is the medication administered?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It is a once-a-day tablet taken orally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is the medication right for me?<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sparsentan is FDA approved for FSGS without nephrotic syndrome. You should talk to your nephrologist to see if sparsentan is right for you, even if you have had nephrotic syndrome in the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sparsentan may not be right for you in certain cases. For example, sparsentan should NOT be taken if you\u2019re pregnant or planning to get pregnant, as it can cause serious birth defects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
