It is a corticosteroid, but unlike other steroids (like prednisone), TARPEYO (Budesonide) Delayed Release Capsules is considered a targeted therapy because it works specifically in the gut; it targets the cells that play an important role in IgA nephropathy (IgAN). TARPEYO (Budesonide) Delayed Release Capsules is also the only FDA-approved steroid for IgAN treatment. \u202fOther steroids have systemic (whole body) impact, not targeted.
