Position Summary The Advocacy Programs Manager will oversee and support NephCure’s grassroots advocacy program by leading the charge in coalescing and consistently engaging volunteer advocates. They will play a key role in working alongside external partners in the strategic development and advancement of NephCure’s policy agenda and advocacy programs. This role requires the ability to understand complex legislative issues, articulate positions, develop and foster relationships with diverse stakeholders to drive key initiatives, and advance policy priorities. Primary Responsibilities Oversee the NephCure Action Network (NCAN), including regional patient communities, advocacy volunteers, physicians, and third-party partners to increase NephCure’s visibility, presence, and influence in government relations. Serve as a liaison with external government relations partners to: Monitor and track policy interests on all federal policy related to rare kidney disease, dialysis, organ transplant, organ donation, and post-transplant care to ensure the advancement of legislation on Capitol Hill. Create messaging (emails, social media posts, etc.) and content (brochures, one-sheets, and other resources) to educate and engage patients, families, volunteers, and other stakeholders around NephCure policy priorities. This work will be done in collaboration with NephCure’s government relations firm and NephCure’s internal Marketing & Communications Department. Offer recommendations and suggestions for messaging to ensure it is on-point, unified, reflects applicable research, and utilizes engaging patient stories to enhance impact. Connect advocacy volunteers with government relations firm for all member meetings. Form and drive key alliances with like-minded groups to mobilize the collective community around NephCure’s policy agenda. Support and provide guidance to advocacy peers. Identify, recruit, educate, and activate NephCure volunteer advocates. Act as point person for the Advocacy Action Center and Capitol Canary platform, as well as the internal champion for integrating with NephCure’s existing systems. Plan and implement NephCure’s Rare Kidney Disease Week, in collaboration with NephCure’s government relations firm, to include an in-person and virtual Hill Day. Ensure that all NCAN members receive regular communication about progress and impact of advocacy work. Members include outside stakeholders/partners, regional communities, and staff. Represent NephCure in relevant hearings, meetings, partner coalitions, and conferences. Represent NephCure at events as needed. Qualifications & Skills Bachelor’s degree, preferably in public policy, public administration, social science, or public health. Minimum of two to four years of related professional experience. Understanding of the legislative system and how to influence outcomes. Demonstrated team skills and ability to form strong partnerships and alliances with a diverse set of stakeholders. Top candidates will have experience with nonprofit grassroots advocacy, healthcare-related policy, and activating volunteers. Strong writing and presentation skills with an understanding of writing for an organizational voice is highly preferred. Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work as both a leader and as part of a team, inspiring others and aligning team members and stakeholders toward agreed direction, goals, and objectives. Willingness to work a flexible schedule with minimum supervision. Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate constituents across the country. Ability to work occasional nights and weekends to support related activities. Proficient with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Ability to travel by plane as needed. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Work Environment & Considerations Candidates may live anywhere in the U.S. and work remotely. NephCure mainly operates on Eastern Standard Time. NephCure offers a supportive and entrepreneurial work environment. Travel is budgeted at 10%.
