Extend Your Support for NephCure
Help Extend Your Support for NephCure!
The LeMay Family of Boonton, NJ is raising money in honor of their son Quinten who suffers from Nephrotic Syndrome.
The Extend Your Support Campaign kicked off on March 20th, 2011 at the Jersey Lightning All Stars Cheerleading competition at Boonton High School. Friends and family of the LeMays extended their support by selling colored hair extensions at the cheerleading competition. The event raised over $2,086! The goal is to raise $5,000. If you would like to contact the LeMay family, email Tanya at tanyallemay@gmail.com.
Quinten was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome in August of 2009 when he was 2 years old. My husband and I always knew something was wrong but the pediatrician kept telling us it was a virus. We just came home from vacation and he began swelling up; we knew it was time to find a new pediatrician and figure out what was going on. We had no idea it would turn out to be this.
Our battle with Nephrotic Syndrome began. We read every article we could get our hands on about Nephrotic Syndrome to understand what was happening to Quinten. We had to figure out how to collect urine when he was still in the diapers, figure out what he could and couldn’t eat, figure out how to handle daycare and the list goes on and on. Quinten was on Prednisone for over a year - first he didn’t respond then he became dependent on the drug. He has been in the hospital several times, and trips to the Nephrologists and blood work have become routine.
In the fall of 2010, I found NephCure. They have helped us connect with other parents to talk about the disease and get tips about how they are dealing with it. We have a long road ahead of us and I’m confident my husband and I will have the support we need to help Quinten.
Although Quinten is battling this disease, he is the bravest little boy I know. He goes to all of his doctors’ appointments and visits to the lab with ease – he can’t wait for Dr. Corey to hear his dinosaur heart!
My husband and I, with support of our friends, family, and community, are making people aware of this terrible disease. We are also hoping the funds that we raise, we help to find a cause and cure for Nephrotic Syndrome.
