South Amboy, NJ Over 130 Nephcure supporters rounded the rink in South Amboy for the first annual NephCure Skate-a-Thon in Central NJ. The event raised over $15,000. Special thanks to the Semmegram, Frazier, Patel, DeDea, Toledo and Targovnik families for their help organizing the event. Orlando, FL It was a magical day at the second annual NephCure Orlando Walk! Three cheers for “Stuff” (The Magic Dragon) - the high-energy and highly entertaining mascot of the Orlando Magic who got things kicked off for us at Blue Jacket Park! It was a gorgeous day to be outside. The walk featured fun activities for kids including arts and crafts, face painting and a bouncy house! Our raffle featured some great prizes and everyone enjoyed complimentary coffee, bottled waters, bagels, muffins and goody bags. We raised close to $4,500! Special thanks to the Graham Family, the Bryant Family and the Pabst Family and to Dr. Robert Mathias for their help and support of the walk. Raleigh/Durham, NC In its first year, the Raleigh/Durham walk brought out over 50 participants who were entertained by a face painting booth, a children's fun tent with activities for the kids, an array of baked goods and drinks, photography by Desiree at DAPC photography and fire trucks from the local fire department with firemen hats and stickers! Special thanks to the Wilems and Vandergrift families for their work organizing the walk, and to Loco Pops and the Childcare Network for their contributions. Los Angeles, CA A new venue for this second year walk was typical California picturesque. At 8 a.m., 120 walkers and volunteers gathered at the entrance to the iconic Santa Monica Pier. Dr. Kevin Lemley of Children’s Hospital and Dr. Ora Yadin were honorary co-chairs of this event. The Walk was dedicated to the memory of Dr. Elaine Kamil’s son, Adam, who passed away in December. The Walk was followed by a Brunch at the Annenberg Community Beach House. All told, more than $30,000 was raised thanks to the work of Committee members Sarretta McDonough, Myriam Rojas, Peter Daenzer & Rich Griswold. Thank you to our fantastic volunteers especially Linda Murphy West, Rasien Ibanez who took our beautiful photos and Alpha Gamma Sigma from Santa Monica College. Atlanta, GA With almost 70 walkers braving the coldest day so far this fall, the NephCure Walk Atlanta raised over $8,000 at Grant Park in Atlanta. With face painting, jewelry making and an unparalleled array of baked goods, the participants enjoyed each other's company while raising important awareness about NephCure. Special thanks to the Roe, Parnes, Barr and Moor families for their help organizing the walk. Check back soon for photos! Orange County, CA Over 200 people gathered in Orange County to raise $10,000 for NephCure in this second year Walk. The Fountain Valley Sports Complex is a beautiful venue and the day was sunny and warm. Thanks to Christopher Windisch for securing Mrs. Fields baked goods. The Volunteer Clowns of Orange County were back again this year to delight the children with happy face stickers and face painting. Special thanks to The Hernandez Family, The Kellys, The Aronskys, The Orrs, and The Cutters. Check back soon for photos! Tampa Bay, FL The good times were rolling at the second annual NephCure Tampa Bay Walk! Participants kicked things off with a beautiful 1 mile walk along Tampa’s downtown waterfront and then headed inside Splitsville, a high-energy bowling lounge for complimentary food, refreshments, bowling, music and fun! The Walk raised over $20,000! Special thanks to the Wellman-Fisk Family and the Warner Family for their help organizing the walk. Also special thanks to Dr. Sharon Perlman and Dr. Nash Purohit for attending the walk and to Levin Financial Group, Morgan & Morgan, Trans-Phos Inc, US AmeriBank, Waste Management and Splitsville for supporting the walk! Yorktown Heights, NY Pennsauken, NJ Fort Myers, FL Saturday, September 25, 2010 < See Photos < Donations Kicked off by a hugely successful online fundraiser one week prior, the NephCure Walk Fairfax raised over $18,000 in its first year, raising awareness in northern Virginia about FSGS and Nephrotic Syndrome. Special thanks to the Buermeyer family, the McArthur family, Pack 159, Oak Hill Elementary, MOPS and WOW at UMC, Fairfax Corner, and to "Tom M" for his photography. Chicago, Illinois Denver, Colorado Thanks to 110 participants, the first annual NephCure Walk Denver raised over $14,000 on a clear day in Harvard Gulch Park. Special thanks to the Helm, Palmer, Puchalla, Stenman and Vigil families for their organizing of the walk and to the Rocky Mountain Pediatric Kidney Center. Montreal, Canada Over 120 walkers came out to the Parc Maissonnevue in Montreal for raffle, food and a brilliant sunny day at the second Annual NephCure walk. Baltimore, MD A great day for a ballgame, over 60 walkers came out for a kick-off party at Sliders Bar and Grill and a festive walk around the Orioles stadium topped by a win by Baltimore against the Nationals. This second-year walk raised over $11,000 for NephCure. Special thanks to the Duquette, Welzant, Penman, Dubendorf and June families. Holtsville, NY San Jose, CA San Jose hosted the first NephCure Walk on a picture-perfect day in California with 150 walkers, 30 volunteers and over $42,000 raised for Nephcure. Special thanks to Betty Granicher, the Queen of Apostles 6th Grade Class, Kristen Vannest, Stevens Creek Nissan and Karen Li for their generous contributions. Miami, FL Richmond, VA Over 45 family members and friends from Central Virginia enjoyed a great morning at Dorey Park raising awareness and much-needed funds for research into Nephrotic Syndrome and FSGS at the first annual NephCure Walk in Richmond, sponsored by Argon ST. Walkers came from all over Central Virginia to share in the celebration. Many drove over an hour to be part of the fun at the first NCF walk ever in Virginia. Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of participants, the Walk has raised over $11,000 (so far)! Team Aubrey’s Angels was the Top Team Fundraiser with more than $3,000 in contributions. Aubrey’s Angels’ team captain, Beth Spagnoli, took the top individual fundraiser award for her efforts in raising over $2,000 herself. Special thanks to the Spagnoli, Robinson and Wiggins families for their help organizing the walk. Ventura County, CA The first NephCure Walk in Thousand Oaks, California was graced with picture perfect weather and almost 200 participants. A Tae kwon Do demonstration entertained the crowd anxiously awaiting the walk start. Air brush painting and coveted auction and raffle items kept all participants busy with bidding and raffle shopping. Feet First Eventertainment created a unique format for the walk that merged the best of a traditional walk, with games and brain twisting challenges that would rival the reality TV Show, “The Amazing Race”. More than $25,000 was raised in this first year thanks to the hard work of the Stubblefield and Murphy families, their friends and other families from NephCure. Dallas, TX The first ever Dallas Fort Worth walk was held at Katy Trail in Reverchon Park, Dallas. Over 100 participants came out and raised over $12,000 for NephCure.
