NephCure Hosts Research Planning Session

NephCure hosted a Research Strategy Planning meeting on November 9, 2011, in Philadelphia, PA, in advance of ASN Kidney Week to envision a fully integrated research and development program for the next three-four years.

Approximately 50 scientific investigators from academic medical centers in the US, Canada, UK and Asia, representatives from the pharmaceutical industry and other  NCF constituents (patients, Board members) came together to brainstorm new strategies to accelerate collaboration between academia and industry.

A major goal of the meeting was to identify ways to seed the drug development pipeline with new therapies while also leveraging our resources to influence more research in basic science to understand the pathways of kidney disease relevant to FSGS and Nephrotic Syndrome.

As a result of the meeting, smaller teams of researchers from the academic and bio-pharma world agreed to pursue advancement of a patient registry and to work with the National Institues of Health and the FDA to accelerate the process of bringing promising compounds to clinical trials.
