Philadelphia Lunch & Learn Educates Area Patients and Families

photoOver 30 patient families attended The Nephcure Foundation's Lunch & Learn on Saturday, June 10 at the Sheraton in Philadelphia.

The nearly 50 guests were treated to informational sessions from Dr. Susan Furth, Dr. Nataliya Zelikovsky and Dr. Allyn Evans, all of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHoP), and  Dr. C. Nathan Okechukwu (Crozer Chester Hospital) and Dr. Larry Holzman (UPenn).

Topics included a simple overview of NS and FSGS, treatment options, diet and nutrition, research and development breakthroughs and psychosocial issues living with chronic disease.

Families had the opportunity to meet each other and share their experiences.

“Before attending the Lunch & Learn, I was truly a parent who thought and felt like no one really understood what my son, his brother and I go through," said particpant Angela Sample, whose 18-year-old son, Eric, recently relapsed due to NS. "Aside from other families we see in the clinic, we had no common factor and no outreach.  I was always told it was a childhood illness, so to be better informed at the seminar has caused me to want to become more involved in helping with events and raising awareness and money to help with both illnesses."

NephCure sincerely thanks all presenters for volunteering their time and for the positive feedback from the attendees.

The next Lunch & Learns take place in Toronto, Canada, Livonia, MI and Los Angeles, CA. To learn more about the details for these locations and the NephCure Lunch & Learn program, click here.
