Adele’s Story

PhotoIn July 2007 when she was just four months old, Adele’s eyes started to swell, but her urine tests were perfect. In the summer of 2009, doctors found positive proteins in her urine and noticed that her eyes were swelling even more. She was then diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome.

Adele has had nine relapses since. The doctor does not give us any other medicine besides prednisone for her relapses because her body responds to the medicine perfectly. She has not had a biopsy yet. She has had only one albumin transfusion.

All of her relapses are the same each time. Nothing changes. Every three months, when she is not on prednisone, her eyes swell and the proteins in her urine appear. Then, she has to start up on prednisone again.

Every relapse makes us very upset, but Adele is almost living a normal life. We have learned to do everything at home so the hospital is no longer necessary.

I pray and hope that it will take longer for her to go into the next relapse and even longer for the proceeding relapses so that maybe one day she will outgrow this illness.

I also hope that medicine for this disease will be researched soon.

Let me know if something changes in the treatment of this illness. We are from Lithuania, so news reaches us really late.
